Dr Rafiuddin Ahmed Biography

Dr Rafiuddin Ahmed, born in Bardhanpara, East Bengal, was instrumental in establishing this profession by establishing the college and hospital in India. Born on 24th December 1890 in Bardhanpara village near the town of Mothurapur (East Bengal) He has been regarded as a pioneer after opening India`s first college of dentistry with its associated hospital His input within dental studies across the world extended beyond just the borders of the nation.

Rafiuddin Ahmed Early Life and Education

Born at Dhaka Madrasa (Dhaka Alia), he was a son of Safiuddin Ahmed and Faizunnesha his mother was Faizunnesha, the wife of the Assistant Collector in the Commissioners’ office. He went to Collegiate School after early education at Madrasha-e-Islamia.

He graduated from Aligarh Muslim University in 1908 only 17 years before journeying to the USA where he pursued dentistry RafiudingraduatedfromAligarhMuslimUniversity 1908 The alma mater was left in turn for a short period of heading Master’s and obtaining my DDS at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics 1915.

Establishment of First Ever Dental College in India

On his return home after completing studies abroad Rafiuddin started a private practice as a dentist in Calcutta in 1920 he founded India’s initial dentistry University College This institution was first called Dr.R.Ahmed College but later changed to Calcutta Dentistry School also known by this name to date.

He led the college as its Principal till 1950 thereby influencing many students through curriculum development necessary for training dentist hopefuls well The institution under his stewardship earned accolades of being one of the best few Universities nationwide.

Role in Advancing Dental Education and Research

Prof. Rafiuddin Ahmed was an outstanding educator besides being involved in research as well as being a PhD holder For instance he wrote articles concerning various topics in dentistry like dental anatomy, operative dentistry, and oral surgery among others which boosted scientific knowledge whilst enhancing dental practices within India.

In 1925 he launched the Indian Dental Journal which became a leading publication in the field of dentistry Most importantly, it became a forum for dental practitioners to publish their findings, share ideas, and update knowledge on modern dental procedures.

Public Service and Recognition

Other than dentistry Rafiuddin Ahmed played key roles in different sectors In between 1932 to 1944 he served as an advisor towards matters related to health within the Calcutta corporation where his responsibilities involved lobbying authorities to embrace policies that aimed at enhancing the environment and health facilities of this city’s residents.

Bharath government honored all these remarkable contributions by awarding the Padma Bhushan title upon him in 1964 Padma Bhushan is a prestigious award dedicated only to those outstanding individuals who have made an indelible contribution at the national level.
