Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Biography

Michelle was born on January 17, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, where she was named. She grew up in a close-knit family with both parents and one older sibling, a brother. Michelle went to Princeton University as an undergraduate student and graduated with majors in sociology and African-American studies.Michelle obtained her Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Harvard Law School (HLS) in 1988.

Career and Marriage

It was at Sidley Austin LLP that she got her big break – when Michelle met Barack Obama whom she would later marry in 1992.Following their engagement, they worked together at various levels within government, notably assisting the Mayor and serving as an Assistant Commissioner (Planning & Development) respectively.

First Lady of the United States

In 2008, she became the FLOTUS(FIRST LADY OF THE UNITED STATES) after his husband won Presidential elections.Children, military families, healthy eating/child obesity are some issues she cared about hence her involvement in campaigns aimed at eradicating this menace like  `Let’s Move’,being part of it. Under her Reach Higher initiative, she championed for colleges/higher education for everyone so no one would feel left out or overlooked.

Public Figure and Icon

One of the celebrities who hit it off both as a First Lady and a fashion icon. She made powerful speeches during the Democratic National Conventions (DNCs) in 2008 and 2012 whose major themes were unity, hope and progress.

After White House Years

Having left office in 2017, she has continued championing social issues centered towards education drive improved living standards among children while empowering them specifically young girls and women.

Her autobiography; ‘Becoming’ came out last year (2018); turned out to be an instant hit among readers who claimed it gave insight to what truly made her who she is today.

Legacy

She still stands out as one of the most influential and famous figures in American history. She is admired for her commitment to using intelligence and advocacy in a bid to change the lives of people positively.
