Sania Mirza, Hyde-generation born on November 15, 1986, in Mumbai, is a name that is synonymous with Indian tennis. The former professional player and current icon led a path-breaking journey ascending to the nation’s most accomplished female tennis athlete. Her talent started to bloom as a junior player; she continued to be prevalent, dominating by winning 10 singles and 13 doubles until 2003. Thus in 2005, she was named as Watta’s comeback of the year.

Grand Slam Glory and Doubles Domination

In 2007, another golden chapter in Sania’s career took place. She won her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open with Russian ace Martina Hingis. The achievement drove them to an unprecedented summit – the world’s No. 1 doubles pair. In the same year, they also won the French Open and Wimbledon, sealing their dominance. Her victory dropped societal stereotypes of women in sports, which was much needed in a conservative country like India. She has been a vocal advocate for equal opportunities in sports and motivates young female athletes.
