Sunil Manohar Gavaskar, often referred to reverentially as the ‘Little Master’, occupies an important place in the history of cricket. He was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India on July 10, 1949. His first series against West Indies turned out to be spectacular. He scored an amazing 774 runs setting a record for the highest runs ever scored by a debutant in a Test series. This performance made him an instant celebrity in international cricket circles which marked his great career.
